The Challenge and Collaborative Solution

The objective was to return the impacted 40-hectare bushland to an indigenous or unimpacted state, specifically enhancing the habitat for the Glossy Black Cockatoo. This required a long-term, multi-agency approach:

  • Complex Coordination: NextGen Civil led the rehabilitation efforts in partnership with Tubba-Gah Wiradjuri Traditional Owners, ecologists, and government bodies.

  • Comprehensive Management: The scope involved original thinning, erosion control, fencing, weed/pest protection, and the safeguarding of heritage items.

  • Innovative Conservation: As part of the environmental works, we created "hollow hog" habitats in mature trees to further support biodiversity.

Outcomes and Achievements

The project's successful completion resulted in several positive outcomes:

  • Environmental Improvements: The project significantly improved the biodiversity of the bushland within the first year, evidenced by the 30% increase in the Vegetation Integrity score.

  • Community Satisfaction: The rehabilitated reserve and its long-term plan will eventually lead to the land being transferred to the council for public access.

  • Client Satisfaction: Successfully established and commenced execution of a 20-year management plan delivering a compliant and profitable project, meeting both clients expectations.
